As the givers of Gavin's genes, Traci and I offer our sincerist apologies to Gavin's future wife for endowing him with this particular trait. At only eight weeks, his snoring can be heard across the room.

Gavin was born on January 3, 2008 to two geeks who apparently spend all their time writing about, taking photos of, and videotaping their baby. This is his photo album, video library, development journal, and daily activity blog.

Whether this is your first time here or you visit every day, please say "hi" to Gavin so that years from now he'll know you visited!

Gavin was sleeping quietly in Robonanny's vibrating arms until intestinal discomfort roused him from slumber. He then proceeded to treat us with his adorable little pouty face before I could assuage his pain with a chew on Mr. Sucky.

Gavin and I have spent our spare moments during the last week completely rebuilding Gavin's video site, www.muddydiapers.com. The new design is database driven and will better scale up along with the increasingly huge library of über-cute videos. Additionally, the site now has the ability to remember which videos are your favorites, and which videos are new and unviewed since your last visit. To enable this feature, the site asks for your name and email address, just as as memorable markers to allow you to recover your favorites should you switch computers or delete your cookies. You will never be emailed - to be honest, the server doesn't actually check to see if you've entered a valid email address - wink, wink, nudge, nudge. So, head on over to www.muddydiapers.com, set your cookie (with a nom de guerre and a made up email address, if you wish), and enjoy the videos.

It's quite apparent that Mr. Whizzers thinks he has a future in modeling. As soon as he sees that camera, he turns on the charm. You may recognize the photos that made it as far as his Flickr page.

Gavin is now keeping everyone apprised of his daily activities on Twitter. His feed is protected so if you'd like to follow along, sign up and request to follow muddydiapers. Daddy still has to work the mouse for him. He can't reach much with his little tyrannosaurus arms.
In other news, Gavin made it through his first church service this morning. Yay! He slept the entire time which is quite an accomplishment with all the music and noise!

Yes, today our little geekling is 50 days old! Obviously, a man of 50 days is no longer a newborn and Gavin doesn't seem to fall into that category anymore. He's awake more during the day now and is no longer content to spend all those waking hours just sitting in his bouncer or basket. His newest hobby is walking around the apartment strapped to one of us, usually Jeff, facing out in the Baby Bjorn. He constantly wants to move around and see different things. We really need to move to a bigger place or he's going to get bored quickly! And, thankfully, Gavin continues to be an excellent sleeper at night. He sleeps 5-6 straight hours every night and we haven't had to get up at 2 AM in weeks! We're so proud of our little guy!

I bring the video camera along for one of Gavin's daily tours around the apartment. This video is only a couple minutes long, but Gavin usually needs about ten minutes of walking with a parent strapped to his back before he gets tired of holding his head up and decides to settle for a nap in the bouncer.

Today was Gavin's second attempt at attending a church. His first attept last week resulted in Daddy missing the second half of the service to cater to Gavin's needs. This morning, Mommy was flying solo with the Gavster while Daddy ran the sound booth for all three services.
As you can see from the photos above (I had a hard time choosing just one again - click to view full size), taken just minutes before leaving the house, Gavin tricked me into believing he was going to make the morning easy for me! He started crying as we pulled into the parking lot and we entered the church with a minute to spare after getting a clean shirt and diaper. We made it through the first 15 minutes of the service before the fussing began and we had to step outside for the duration.
Gavin had calmed down by the time the service was over so we went back in to visit Daddy. With a tummy fill-up and diaper change, we were good to go and decided to try sitting through the next service so we could hear the sermon. This time we were making too many happy sounds so, as to not disrupt the others in the pew, we spent the rest of the hour walking and bouncing around the parlor behind the sanctuary while listening to Dr. Tim's great sermon. Gavin has been very curious lately, wanting to see new things and constantly have his field of vision changed. He loved looking around at everything in the parlor and we discovered that he is captivated by stained glass!
Throughout the morning Gavin got to meet new friends and be reacquainted with others he hasn't seen in a few weeks. He even drooled on Pastor Sally's robe but she forgave him.
So, we'll keep trying and let you all know how next Sunday goes!

Gavin drops his pacifier, but can't maneuver it back into his mouth. His best effort gets him only a few licks on it.

When Gavin gets to digesting, it is never pretty. It's so strenuous for him that he needs Mr. Sucky to lean on, and often sucks with such reckless abandon that Mr. Sucky tumbles right out of his mouth. At times, you'll see me giving him a hand by bicycling his legs.

This week Gavin started smiling - REALLY smiling! And just to keep things even, he's also gotten really good at pouting (I still need to get a photo of his cute pout!) and slobbering all over his hands. It seems that every week he's doing something new.
All this smiling has made the daily photo shoots great fun. Each shoot results with at least a dozen photos of which 4-5 are usually keepers. I often have a really hard time picking just one to post as his photo of the day on Flickr! There are so many photos that aren't shared online, so here are the keepers from two of the past week's photo shoots (click to view them full size).

Gavin's paternal grandmother gets a bit of a reaction out of Gavin, but when I lean in close to catch his reaction, he is intimidated by the big fuzzy microphone on top of the camera.

Gavin never seems to digest quietly. Each feeding will bring on a bout of voracious digestion. Presumably, he finds this most unsettling, as he can't process a drop without chewing on his good buddy, Mr. Sucky. Unfortunately, the harder Gavin chomps, the more tenuous his grasp becomes, and he loses his friend in his greatest moment of need.

Gavin gets ready for the day with a fresh diaper and a new outfit. The high point is when you see Gavin's calmest moment - when I'm blasting spittle onto his tummy. He stops fidgeting, stops whimpering, and just savors the experience of a good raspberry.

This morning was Gavin's one month checkup with the pediatrician. He just got the usual poking and prodding, and is in great health! Here are Gavin's new stats:
He's in the 95th percentile for both weight and height. He's a big boy!

Gavin's bottles are prepared in the morning, and then refrigerated until he kindly requests them. As he doesn't like the stuff too cold, each bottle needs about five minutes of warming before feeding. It is often difficult to distract the young master during this period, but Traci does a most remarkable job here.

Tonight was Gavin's second restaurant outing - this time to Iguana Mia for his mommy's birthday.
He was also reacquainted with Mommy's Aunt Faye and his Aunt Kristen, who's excited to be in town through Monday.

Gavin's Aunt Kristen will be arriving tomorrow evening for a weekend visit. Since she doesn't get to see him often, Gavin wanted to look his best so he visited Salon d'Mom again for a refreshing bath and manicure.
Gavin was very pleased with the results!

Yesterday, Gavin's parents celebrated their second wedding anniversary. What a difference a year makes! Last year, we celebrated our first anniversary by spending the weekend at Disney World acting like kids. This year we opted to stay home, order take-out, and spend time with OUR kid! As much fun as we had last year, this second anniversary definitely tops it. We are so blessed to have each other and our little cutie pie.
We also attended a brief meeting at church to discuss Gavin's baptism and today we confirmed the date - May 11th. On my first Mother's Day, my baby will be baptized! Better start stocking up on tissues now!

Master Gavin is one month old today! This evening he went to a restaurant, Bahama Breeze, for the first time to enjoy a nice dinner with family from in and out of town. He behaved so well and was constantly looking around at his surroundings. The servers were quite smitten with him :).
Our big boy is growing out of his newborn size clothes. His neck is getting stronger so he has much more control over his wobbly head. He is also able to focus much better with his eyes so hopefully he's inherited his father's 20/20 vision and not mine! It seems like he's growing up so fast yet I can't remember what our lives were like without him!
