Today the cutest little package arrived in the mail. The box contained Junior's first set of diapers! We will be using cloth diapers and, as you can see, these aren't your old flat diapers that fasten with pins. We bought a dozen Happy Heiny's pocket diapers. We started with the extra small size (HH calls them "tiny heiny"!) and will buy a few BumGenius all-in-ones to round out the set.
This means we'll be running a load of laundry every night, but it's definitely worth it for the cost savings, environmental reasons, and, most importantly, for our baby boy's health. Over the course of his diapering years, we'll save more than $1,000 buying cloth diapers instead of disposables. These cloth diapers will keep Junior drier, minimize diaper rash, and they contain no harsh chemicals or dioxin next to his sensitive little bum.
Of course, Jeff's diaper picture is more creative

Today, we outfitted Jeff with everything he needs to take Junior out on the town - a Baby Bjorn carrier (modeled here by Snoopy) and a diaper bag. We'll both use them but Jeff won out since he didn't care for the ribboned chocolate brown and baby blue diaper bag or baby sling I had chosen :). This diaper bag is green so it was immediately approved by me and has an antimicrobial liner so it was immediately approved by Jeff.
I also have to share this picture of Burt bonding with Junior. He crawled onto my lap and put his paw on my tummy to feel for kicks!

My 26-week checkup was yesterday and everything continues to look great for me and Junior! I took the glucose tolerance test which checks for gestational diabetes. For this test I had to drink a sugary orange drink (it tasted like really sugary flat orange soda) and then have my blood drawn an hour later to make sure my body processed the glucose properly. The nurse told me I would only hear the results if I failed so I'm assuming everything turned out OK since I haven't received a phone call yet. My iron levels were also perfect which means this new bout of exhaustion is just the baby zapping my strength again!
Junior was on a sugar high because of the glucose test so his heartbeat was back up to 160 bpm. My bump measured 26-27 cm (4 cm more than four weeks ago) and I've gained 5 pounds since the last appointment so I'm up to a total gain of 15 pounds. Woah!
Have y'all noticed that I'm down to double digits for "days to go" in the ticker at the top of this page?! Ah! Just over three more months

Today I went to the Baby Gap store down in Naples after work to buy more maternity tops since I discovered this morning that none of my pre-pregnancy tops fit anymore. Ah!
The Gap's maternity departments are in back of the Baby Gap stores. How convenient! They make you walk past all of the cute baby clothes to get to what you're really looking for. How can you possibly leave without a few irresistible goodies for baby?

Baby bulge at 25 weeks (6 months): Still doesn't look like much from the front, but definitely showing a lot more from the side. I swear I looked bigger every time I saw myself in the mirror today, though. These pictures just don't convey reality very well!
Jeff, Doozer, and Burt were feeling left out and wanted to show their bellies, too.

Yesterday we hit a few Labor Day sales and picked up a few adorable newborn outfits at the Little Me store that is closing. I know we shouldn't be starting this early because we'll end up with too many newborn clothes and Junior will grow out of them before he even has a chance to wear them all, but these were half price and just way too cute! :)

Today's the big day! In a few years, Mommy and Auntie Kip will bring Junior to Tallahassee to see the Seminoles play in person, but today he will have to experience his first Florida State football game from the living room. I've been feeling him practice his tomahawk chop all weekend. He's ready to go!
GO NOLES! :)

Cynthia said... lol, I didnt notice at first that all the stuffed animals were wearing diapers! And I hadn't thought of cloth diapers as being better for Junior's health, but I suppose they would be. Almost time before Junior's parents and his babysitters become more familiar with those colorful pieces of cloth! ;)
